A solo exhibition by Emma de la Peña. Showcasing prints of Edinburgh, and beyond, in a fantastical way.

An exhibition of photographs by Colin MacLeod (1945–2025), a pioneering Scottish photographer, filmmaker, and educator whose work evolved over a long and influential career. Bringing together a selection of his later digital images, the exhibition reflects a lifelong, deeply observational engagement with seeing, making, and meaning.

The Nook brings together five Coburg House studio artists, spanning jewellery and painting. From recycled silver and sea glass to porcelain and expressive landscapes, each practice reflects a deep connection to material and place. Open studios across two weekends invite visitors behind the scenes.

This March, In the Making presents contemporary craft as rigorous, evolving practice. Featuring knitting, jewellery, kilt making, and wood and metal work, the exhibition highlights material, structure, and precision. These are works shaped by experience, grounded in tradition, sharpened through sustained practice, and firmly situated in the present.

New Ground brings together artists who are new or returning to Coburg House. Spanning painting, illustration, jewellery, weaving, textiles and design, the exhibition celebrates fresh presences, evolving practices and shared space—offering a snapshot of work taking root within the building.

Giclée as Gesture is a giclée exhibition celebrating the artistry, process and vision of local artists. Each print is carefully produced to honour the original work, offering a considered way to live with thoughtful, high-quality art while supporting artists’ practices.

Coburg Kiln II is a celebration of contemporary ceramics rooted in earth and altered by fire. Bringing together sculptural, experimental, and functional works, the exhibition explores clay as a material of labour, listening, and transformation.

This years exhibition features work from Angeni Perez, Beth Lamont, Emma Sutherland, George Perry, Laura Lightbody, The Potter of Leith: Andy Lang, Will Carey and Yimou Huang.

‘COBURG20’, part two of our 20th anniversary celebrations, featuring 20 unique brooches and a collection of 20 × 20 cm artworks created especially for this show. Every piece will be available to purchase, offering a rare chance to take home an original work of art.

This exhibition is the third instalment of Parallels, where artists Anna Gormezano Marks, Fiona Luing, Jenni Colquhoun and Solii Brodie come together to showcase their bodies of work from one meeting point seven years previously to their present day.

Edinburgh Modern Quilt Guild are a group of creative people who meet regularly to talk, learn and create using fabric as our medium. Some of our artwork will make you smile, some will make you as cross as two sticks, and some will move you. 

Keith Mitchell’s work combines painting and collage, creating dynamic compositions that explore the tension between chaos and harmony. Navigating a universe of disparate fragments, his intuitive process mirrors the struggles of life, striving for balance and meaning. Each piece reflects his meditation on unity within an imperfect, yet ordered, world.

A playful, vibrant mix of artworks from Bjorn Rune Lie, Eleni Kalorkoti, Louise Smurthwaite and Jon McNaught, featuring Printmaking, Illustration, Paintings and Textile works.

Returning from a three month artist residency at AiRK in Kobe, Japan, James Albon uses this new body of work to explore themes of language-learning, cross-cultural connection, and the bewildering experience of being only semi-conversant in a foreign language. With a series of observational drawings and large-scale studio works developed from the residency, the exhibition tells stories from the no-man's land between tradition and technology, enjoyment and anxiety, clear communication and utter confusion. 

This exhibition gives an insight into the stories and wonders of nature that have inspired Bryony Knox over the last 25 years, with sketches and maquettes explaining her design and making process- and demonstrations of her beloved embossing technique of Chasing & Repousse.

Behind the scenes at Coburg House we have magic happening in the Evenings! Twenty five people every week come to make their own special jewellery and have fun in studio 30 with Jacqueline Bell.

Exciting new works by painter and printmaker, Alan Chapman and contemporary jeweller, Eleanor Symms. Multi-layered, complex and vibrant, these combine structure and geometry with colour and expression.

Impression & Expression showcases five Coburg House artists exploring the boundaries of painting and printmaking. With a focus on unique, original artworks, the exhibition reveals the interplay between gesture and process, surface and ideas—highlighting the expressive power of mark-making in its many forms.

Exhibiting together for the first time, Whatever Happens, Happens is an eclectic mix of collage prints, riso-printed books, hand-painted animation frames and more from animator-designer-director-researchers Jenny Jokela and Dan Castro. Through playful experimentation and vibrant, exciting work, they explore how following-your-nose and not having a plan can be a valid, productive, terrifying, joyful way of making art.

Connected by a shared fascination with the natural world, Rachel George and Mary Farrell present unique interpretations of nature's beauty. From George’s evocative coastal oil paintings to Farrell’s intricate silver jewellery and vibrant prints, this exhibition invites viewers to explore landscapes, skies, and nature’s hidden architectures through contrasting yet harmonious artistic lenses.

Inspired by her RSA John Kinross Scholarship residency in Florence, Evie Rose Thornton’s latest work explores the rugged beauty of the Highlands, Alps and Dolomites through paintings that reflect both the natural world and human connection to it. Drawing on Nan Shepherd’s The Living Mountain, Thornton’s pieces examine landscapes of beauty, harshness, and personal transformation.

This exhibition celebrates exquisite fine art prints that capture the soul of the original, preserving every brushstroke and detail with stunning clarity. Framed or mounted and ready to take home, these works make collecting fine art accessible, offering a piece of an artist’s world, reimagined for yours. You will see works from Joy Arden, David Blakely, Lynn Hanley, Stephen Mangan, Val Menon, Stephanie Rew, Marion Reynolds and Karen Warner.

Noel Shelley’s Unseen Stages is a photographic exploration of artistry and movement, capturing the essence of what it means to feel “at home” in one’s creative self. Through collaborations with performance artists Sharon O’Brien and Margarida Macieira, Shelley’s work delves into the dynamic interplay of motion and individuality. O’Brien’s Weave series captures fluid, ephemeral movements through long-exposure photography, while Macieira’s expertise in Gaga movement language brings a raw, personal flow to life. Shelley’s portraits celebrate the authenticity and creativity of his subjects, offering an intimate perspective on the artistry of movement and expression.

Contemporary silversmithing exhibition, ‘New Traditions,’ a unique and exclusive event showcasing the latest works of silversmiths Hannah Keddie, Katie Watson, and Scott Smith, the first cohort of tenants at The Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop.

This exhibition marks the midpoint of their residency at the Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop, offering a moment to reflect on their evolving journey as tenants and the development of their craft through exploration, experimentation, and creation.

This event offers an exceptional opportunity to explore the journey of these talented makers as they document their process of investigation, development, and exploration through making. From work-in-progress maquettes and samples to fully realised pieces made from 2024 onwards, you'll gain insight into the evolution of their craft and the honing of their techniques.
