Paradigms

  • Coburg House Art Studios 15 Coburg Street Edinburgh, Scotland, EH6 6ET United Kingdom (map)

Paradigms is an exhibition of recent work of four visual artists based in Edinburgh. While all four have distinct worldviews, they share a common passion for their individual influences, subjects and approaches, ranging from figurative to abstract. A selection of paintings, drawings and prints can be seen at Coburg House Gallery, Edinburgh on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October.

Catherine Young: I suggest a glimpse and an interpretation of what is in front of me and in my memory. I have focussed on a theme of looking through an opening or space to what can be seen outside in a rural environment. colour, and the application of paint in mark making, are important to my process of abstraction.

Hazel Brady: The environment I live in and nature in all its forms have an influence on my artistic practice. I am constantly amazed how plants survive and thrive given the correct bio system. I explore this through light, shade and colour. My own emotional state also influence my treatment of paint.

Jayne McIntyre: My subject matter is sourced from observation, photographs and textiles. My sketchbook is the depository for these ideas. The blurred, cropped images, scribbles of snippets of conversations, fabric threads and fragments of memory combine.I am attempting to capture a fleeting moment of memory or dialogue without reference to a timeline or context.

Louise Todd: As a visual artist and academic, my artwork and research are complementary practices. I observe and imagine people and places through the lens of tourism, as a phenomenon, and as a set of visual practices. My artwork intersects how we gaze as tourists through the artist’s reflective visual discourses.
