CAROL JOURDAN
MEET THE ARTIST…
Brazilian born artist Carol Jourdan’s works with foraged inks to produce paintings on canvas and paper. Her inks are produced from fallen petals, bark, rusted metals, copper scraps, kitchen scraps and garden materials. These inks are unstable by nature: they crystallise, bloom and shift, reacting to one another, to heat and to time. Rather than controlling this behaviour, Carol creates conditions for it, allowing the material’s own logic to shape the image. Each painting is a record of collaboration between hand and matter, control and release. Alongside her painting practice Carol explores these unique inks through macro photographs and microscope images revealing a hidden world within the paintings.
