meet the artist…

Catriona's attraction to the industrial seascape - metal hulls and rusty signage - was sparked while living in port towns in New Zealand and Scotland.

The process of layering, scraping and shaping the paint allows her to play with both surface and depth and to consider the tension between formal structure and the element of chance. Although her primary medium is paint she also uses man-made and natural found objects such as buoys, bones and wood. Body and mind, navigation and a sense of place are recurring themes.

Alongside her art practice Catriona is currently studying for an MSc in Art Therapy while continuing her part-time work as a community nurse.
